Being queer saved my life. Often we see queerness as deprivation. But when I look at my life, I saw that queerness demanded an alternative innovation from me. I had to make alternative routes; it made me curious; it made me ask, “Is this enough for me?”

I’m a queer therapist, a playful meaning-maker, a former overanalyzer (okay, still working on that one), and someone who knows firsthand what it’s like to feel out of sync with the world around you. If you’ve ever wondered:
“Is this just how it is? Is there something wrong with me for wanting more?”
…you’re not alone — and you’re definitely not broken.
I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ folks, neuroquirky humans, and people living outside of “the norm” in some way - whether that’s in how you relate to others, how you think, how your body functions or feels, or any part of your life or identity that’s made you feel like you’ve never quite fit in with the mainstream.
My Approach
I strive to create room for people to be exactly who and how they are, to dismantle shame and stigma, and to safely muck around in the messiness, vulnerability and exquisite beauty and difficulty of being human. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to shrink, perform, or over explain yourself just to be understood.
In therapy with me, you can show up messy, unsure, contradictory, sensitive, exhausted, brilliant, numb, curious - exactly as you are.
We’ll work together to make space for your whole self. We will create a space that is for you and just for you, a therapeutic container that holds you with care, allows you to be both strong and soft, and asks you to be brave.
I know how challenging it can be to navigate the systems we live in, and how hard it can be to carve out space for the most tender and closely held parts of ourselves.
Let’s make space for you!
BELIEFS THAT SHAPE THE WORK I DO
❤️🩹 I believe that being “too sensitive” is often a survival skill.
✨ I believe there’s wisdom in the weirdness, in the difference, in the discomfort.
🎨 I believe queer people carry some of the absolute most creative, radical, and resilient ways of being alive.
A Catalyst for Change
Our work won’t be about “fixing” you — it’ll be about gently unlearning what the world taught you to believe about yourself and reclaiming a grounded and secure sense of who you are and what you’re about. I support therapy seekers in unpacking the internalized weight of stigma, shame, and survival, and help them build a life that’s rooted in self-trust, belonging, and joy.
Liberation is personal. And systemic. We talk about both.
We’ll use a trauma-informed, identity-affirming, liberation-focused framework that prioritizes tending to the nervous system while also unpacking and pushing back against oppressive systems. In our work together we’ll create new stories and possibilities, and start to let go of the old narratives that have kept you feeling small and powerless.
This is a space to feel your way forward - without judgment, urgency, or expectations to perform.
My approach to therapy is centered around people’s innate agency, autonomy, and capacity for self-determination. I view therapy as an opportunity for intentional collaboration, skill-building and the sharing of resources and helpful tools. I recognize that individuals’ experiences are deeply rooted in the social, cultural, historical, and political context, and I view personal healing and growth as intimately intertwined with building a more just and equitable world on a systems level. I believe that everyone is doing their absolute best with the tools, resources, skills and knowledge that they have available to them. And that everyone deserves radical kindness and fierce support - no matter what they are facing or have experienced. All growth is incremental, and in therapy we will honor whatever pace and path your own growth process takes!
I want to help support you in building a life that feels nourishing - however you define that for yourself! Nobody knows your life better than you do!
Behind the Scenes
Clinical supervisors Vinegar (right) and Nico (below) often attend telehealth sessions.
Baby therapist in the making, circa late 80s.
I am an Asheville native with multi-generational roots in the southern Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina. In my lifetime I have lived, studied, and worked in North Carolina, in Rhode Island, Nicaragua, Mexico City, Cuba, Brazil, and Portugal. I hold a Master of Social Work from Western Carolina University, where I received specialized training as a HRSA Integrated Healthcare Scholar. I completed a B.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Brown University, with a supplementary course of study in Geography and the Environment at Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Throughout my career I have worked with erotically marginalized individuals, with survivors of childhood trauma and neglect, with immigrants and their families, with survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence, with traditional-age and non-traditional age undergraduate and graduate students, and adolescents in wilderness therapy. In addition to my work in the mental health field, I have worked in language justice as a Spanish-English interpreter, in community organizing, international education and leadership development, and as a server and bartender in the restaurant industry. Our life experiences shape who we are and how we show up. The breadth of lived experiences I’ve had greatly shapes how I approach my work as a therapist, and has helped me to develop a holistic and multi-faceted approach to human health and well-being.
Outside of being a therapist, I find joy in goofing around outside, long-distance hiking, playing soccer, getting messy and being creative, building community, breaking free from both external and internalized oppression, writing, cuddling with my cats, reading all the afro-futurist, sci-fi, and speculative fiction I can get my hands on, and making up silly puns with my loved ones.
